FAQS
EWHIP Frequently Asked Questions: Everything You Need to Know
Purchasing a premium electric bike is a big decision, and you deserve total confidence before you hit the streets. We’ve compiled the most common questions our riders ask us so you know exactly what to expect from your new EWHIP.
Can't find what you're looking for? Don't stress. Contact our Avoca Beach team directly at 0415 174 669 or email blake@ewhip.com.au. We’re real Australians ready to help you get on the road.
⚖️ Street Legality & Riding Rules
Are EWHIP bikes actually street legal in Australia? Yes, absolutely. Both "The Boom" and "The Captain" are meticulously engineered to comply strictly with EN15194 Australian Standards. They feature a precision 250W Bafang motor and are hard locked to a 25km/h pedal-assist speed limit. This makes them 100% legal for use on public roads, footpaths, and cycleways across Australia.
Do I need a special driver's license or vehicle registration to ride? No. Because our fat tyre e-bikes are fully EN15194 certified, they are classified as Electrically Power-Assisted Cycles (EPACs) and treated exactly the same as regular bicycles under Australian law. You do not need a license, vehicle registration, or mandatory insurance to ride an EWHIP.
Can I unlock the speed limit to go faster than 25km/h? Our bikes are shipped with a strict 25km/h speed limit to guarantee your safety and ensure they remain street legal. While some competitors sell easily modified bikes, unlocking the speed limiter or installing an aftermarket throttle renders the bike an unregistered motor vehicle in states like NSW, QLD, and VIC, risking heavy fines and confiscation. Please note that modifying the motor controller to exceed 25km/h will immediately void your EWHIP warranty.
🔋 Battery Performance & Charging
How far can I ride on a single charge? Say goodbye to range anxiety. Powered by premium 48V 20Ah Samsung lithium-ion cells, you can expect a massive riding range of up to 80km per charge. Range will vary slightly depending on your terrain, rider weight, and how much motor assistance you use.
How do I charge the battery, and how long does it take? It couldn't be easier. The battery is fully removable with a secure key lock. You can charge it directly on the bike, or slide it out and take it inside to charge at your office desk or kitchen bench using any standard Australian wall outlet. A full charge takes just 4 to 6 hours using the included fast charger, getting you back on the road fast.
Are the batteries safe? Yes. In an industry flooded with cheap, uncertified imports, we never compromise on safety. Our bikes utilize premium Samsung Lithium-Ion batteries that are built for endurance (rechargeable up to 1,000 cycles) and strictly meet electrical safety standards to give you and your family total peace of mind. Plus, a full recharge costs as little as $0.27, making it incredibly economical.
📦 Shipping, Assembly & The Free Crew Pack
Where do you ship from and how much does it cost? We are a proudly Australian-owned business. All EWHIP orders are processed and dispatched directly from our Australian warehouse, and we offer Free Australia-Wide Shipping on all bike orders.
What is the "Free Crew Pack" I keep hearing about? To welcome you to the community, every EWHIP bike purchase currently includes our Free Crew Pack, valued at $545. This bonus gear bundle hooks you up with a heavy-duty folding bike lock, passenger rear pegs, a bolt-on rear rack, and a smart locator tag to keep your ride secure. (Note: This is a limited-time offer!)
Does the bike arrive fully assembled? Your EWHIP arrives securely boxed and 85% assembled. To get rolling, you simply need to attach the front wheel, handlebars, pedals, and headlight. We provide all the necessary tools in the box, along with a simple step-by-step video guide. Most riders are fully set up and ready to cruise in just 30 minutes.
Can I pick up my bike in person? Yes! If you are local to the NSW Central Coast, you can absolutely pick up your bike from our Avoca Beach location. Just select "Pick Up" at checkout or contact our team to arrange a collection time.
🛠️ Warranty, Maintenance & Support
What is the EWHIP Warranty? We stand firmly behind the engineering of our machines. Every EWHIP comes with a comprehensive Two-Year (or 1,000 kilometre) Limited Warranty covering the frame, motor, and Samsung battery.
What happens if I need spare parts or a repair? Unlike overseas drop-shippers who disappear after the sale, we are here for the long haul. We stock a full range of spare parts in our Australian warehouse—including 20x4.0 Vee fat tyres, brake pads, and LCD displays—so you are never left waiting. We also have a network of authorized service partners across the Gold Coast, Central Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
Can I ride my EWHIP in the rain? Yes, our bikes are IP-rated for water resistance and designed to handle real-world Aussie conditions. They can easily handle light rain and splashes. However, they are not submarines! Avoid riding through deep puddles, never submerge the motor or battery, and do not use high-pressure washers to clean the bike. Always wipe the bike down with a dry cloth after a wet ride.
